The Gospel & Sanctification

May 11, 2016 by: Charlie Hogstad | 0 Comments

Thinking about the battle we wage against the spiritual forces of darkness and evil in the heavenly places, we need to talk about no condemnation. We need to talk about the payment being made in Christ’s blood. But we also need to talk about freedom from sin’s dominion and the ability in Christ to walk in newness of life.... Keep Reading

Putting Kids in Their Proper Place: Part Four

August 5, 2015 by: Charlie Hogstad | 0 Comments

We want our kids to have front-row seats to the spiritual growth of the community of believers as we are raising them to be Christ-centered missionaries in our world. Parents have a unique role to discipline and instruct them toward this life of following Christ. So many of you are bringing your children into the body of Christ. You are showing them your desire to know Christ, to know Christ followers, and to make new disciples. You are having the conversation with your kids about the ‘why’ behind it. What an amazing and humbling privilege to be a part of a disciple-making movement that is putting kids in their proper place!... Keep Reading

Put Kids in Their Proper Place: Part Three

June 18, 2015 by: Charlie Hogstad | 0 Comments

Could we radically redefine “normal” for our kids? As I have seen over and over in my own life, I default to “normal.” My wife will tell you that my normal is not the same as her normal but I go back to my normal all the time. Normal is a distracted mind. Normal is forgetting responsibility. Normal is waiting until someone is upset before addressing the issue. Normal is watching TV as soon as I have downtime. All of these normal’s have their root in my childhood and teen years. What if River City families could create missional living as the default normal for our kids?... Keep Reading

Put Kids in Their Proper Place: Part One

May 21, 2015 by: Charlie Hogstad | 0 Comments

Throughout the bible, there are a lot of children born (or there was a lot of ‘begat’ing for the KJV fans). Their life begins and their life ends but most of the stories we know well are people in their teenage or adult years. So, where were do children show up? If you read with this question in mind, you might see that they are not where you would expect based on modern Christian Evangelical traditions.... Keep Reading
